The Bill Hammond Multicultural Literacy Award
The Bill Hammond Multicultural Literacy Award is an award established and awarded by Georgia Association of Literacy Advocates (GALA, formerly Georgia Reading Association, GRA) to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Bill Hammond. Dr. Hammond served in numerous positions of leadership in the Georgia Reading Association, including GRA President. His work in the field of multicultural literacy at the international, state, and local levels was exemplary and has been recognized and honored by the International Literacy Association.
The recipient of this annual, prestigious award will be recognized at the GALA Annual Juanita B. Abernathy Awards Ceremony in May 2019, will receive a complimentary one-year membership in GALA, will receive a certificate, and will be recognized in the GALA Focus newsletter.

UNDERGRADUATE LITERACY SCHOLARSHIP

Undergraduates enrolled in an education degree program that involves literacy education are eligible to apply to receive a monetary scholarship from the Georgia Association of Literacy Advocates (GALA).
Please submit the application cover sheet and required application information to Dr. Dawn Owens at drdeltadawn@icloud.com or mail to Dr. Dawn Owens 111 Crestwood Rd. Warner Robins, GA 31093 by March 30, 2019. Applicants will be sent an email confirming receipt of the application.
Selected recipients will be recognized at the GALA Annual Juanita B. Abernathy Awards Celebration, May 5, 2019, at The Assembly at Warner Robins, Byron, GA, and will receive a check for $200, a certificate, and a one-year membership in GALA. Detailed information concerning the event will be included in an invitation sent to all applicants via email.
